The Brief

Spark 44 selected the landmark, Morelands building, which is a combination of formal warehouses and workshops, cleverly redeveloped into office and commercial space by Derwent London. Morelands building has been awarded BREEAM rating of Outstanding, therefore it was important to maintain their sustainable aspirations. Stanway were tasked to join the two warehouses together with an external two-storey extension to create a large atrium area with natural light followed by full fit-out of their office space.

The Outcome

Works completed by Stanway internally incorporated concrete slab demolition works, with the construction of a feature staircase with a spring loaded cantilever design. Structural steelwork was required as well bespoke joinery, bench seating, double height open-plan working area and a feature island with high-top seating area. Also included were exposed services, feature lighting, meeting spaces, new mezzanine level with WC's and lockers. This necessitated new steel beams, concrete lintels, load bearing block-walls and brickwork. Finally a timber roof construction, new glazing, associated ground works and stone paving along with a bike rack were created.
